Businesses wake up to the benefits of a mobile app strategy

Ninety percent of organizations are planning a 24% increase in investment towards mobile application development within the next 12 months.

According to a recent survey, around 52% of organizations have fully implemented a mobile app strategy – which is a vast improvement on the 7% reported back in 2013.

The respondents of the survey also said that their organizations are planning to develop 21 custom apps each year on average over the next two years.

According to the research, 35% of organizations claim that mobile apps have helped them reinvent their business processes, with another 37% stating that they are using apps to automate existing processes.

Further survey findings included how 85% of respondents favored open source software, claiming that it is important to their app development strategy.

Nearly 26% of the organizations plan to use Node.js as their language for back-end development within the next two years, while 19% plan to primarily use .NET, while 15% plan to primarily use Java as their language for back-end development.

Cathal McGloin said: “Organizations are realizing the importance of mobile strategies. We’re seeing a shift towards more mature practices such as collaboration across business and IT teams, as well as recognition of the importance of open source software, MBaaS technology and lightweight languages. Based on the survey, we anticipate mobile application development will increase over the next two years.”
